My 2 cents thought... He should have spoken with clarity, close the loop and move on. Unfortunately, he chose not to. Tried to buy time. Let the distractors have a field day. 

And things have gone from bad to worst. It's not gonna turn back in the 'ooopppsss...' category. Never!
